INFORMED CONSENT STATEMENT
Using digital storytelling to connect the ethnic majority with minorities
You are invited to participate in a research study. Using digital storytelling to connect the ethnic majority with minorities (REC/23-24/0301). The purpose of this study is to enhance participants’ openness to ethnocultural diversity.
INFORMATION
Over a three-month period, participants may be randomly assigned to the intervention group with participants doing a digital storytelling project and a waitlist control group with participants who do not do the digital storytelling project. Assessments will be done before and after the intervention. Core psychological outcome measures include the ethnic fusion attitude, need for cognitive closure, and perspective-taking mindset. Participants may be invited to take part in interviews and complete online questionnaires
BENEFITS
Participants can enrich their knowledge about ethnocultural diversity and contribute to the body of knowledge of digital storytelling practice.
COMPENSATION
Participants will be awarded supermarket/coffee coupons upon successful completion of the project.
POTENTIAL RISK
There is no known or anticipated risk to the participants.
CONFIDENTIALITY
During the project period, information submitted by participants and digital data generated by the system will be kept strictly confidential. Information and digital data will be stored in encrypted electronic form and the results will only be used for academic purposes. The information collected during the project will also be completely destroyed within three years of the completion of the study. Protocols adopted by the project are in line with the University’s Privacy Policy Statement and Personal Information Collection Statement (https://bupdpo.hkbu.edu.hk/policies-and-procedures/pps-pics/).

PARTICIPATION
Your participation in this study is voluntary; you may decline to participate without penalty. If you decide to participate, you may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty and without loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. If you withdraw from the study before data collection is completed your data will be returned to you or destroyed.
